Iowa may be the 9th healthiest state now, but we could quickly fall behind due to Governor Branstad’s refusal to expand Medicaid.
A new study shows Iowa has moved into the top 10 when it comes to the healthiest states in the nation. This is great news, and encourages us to keep pushing for the top. Unfortunately, the Governor continues to refuse to expand Medicaid, denying health insurance to 150,000 Iowans.
Seven of the top ten healthiest states are expanding Medicaid. Their citizens will receive better care for chronic conditions and mental health, preventive care and prescription drugs.
Let’s do what’s best for Iowans and make our state the healthiest in the nation. Expanding Medicaid will help achieve our goal.
